Yay! Friday! (26th June 2009) – “New York” and “Bolt!”

Well I am back with my updates of movies releasing every week (hopefully). I must confess that the producers’ strike had extinguished my enthusiasm for writing these articles, but I’m trying to re-kindle it anyway. So this week is very good, very exciting because we (finally) get to watch New York and there is also the Walt Disney movie called Bolt (I am a fan of Walt Disney!).

New York

New YorkYes! It finally releases! After what seems to be an eternally long wait (Wasn’t it scheduled to be released in January sometime?).

New York is directed by Kabir Khan (of Kabul Express fame) and stars (the most interesting aspect of the movie!) John Abraham, Katrina Kaif and Neil Nitin Mukesh (and they do look very good together!)

The movie revolves around the lives of three friends Sameer (John Abraham), Omar (Neil Nitin Mukesh) and Maya (Katrina kaif). Omar goes to New York for the first time and soon falls in love with the city and his American friends Sameer and Maya. Together, the trio discover a new world, until one day, the world around them is thrown into mayhem. Omar is wrongly held captive in connection with the 9/11 attacks. Seven years later, drops in FBI agent Roshan (Irrfan Khan), who agrees on a loose leash for Omar, if he would help them investigate Sameer, whom they suspect of terrorist activities. Of course there is a romantic angle thrown in (I mean it is a Yash Raj Production after all!).

So now that it is in theatres, my wait ends (well.. kind of, because still I haven’t the time for it!).

Bolt

BoltLike all Hollywood movies, Bolt is late in India by about 8 months. (I don’t know if it has been released earlier elsewhere in India!)

Bolt is the latest CGI animated movie by Walt Disney and therefore, it will have all the Disney ingredients, which can be summed up in a single phrase – “feel good”.

Bolt (John Travolta) is a super-hero (super-dog) on a TV show, who is under the illusion that all his super powers are for real, and has never set foot (err.. paw) outside the studio. Bolt is super-defensive of his owner on the show, Penny (Miley Cyrus). So when Penny is kidnapped on the show, Bolt believes that she is kidnapped for real and breaks out of the studio looking for her, and somehow is mailed from Hollywood to New York. On begins a hilarious journey across the country with his new found friend, Rhino, a hamster who is a super-fan of his and Mittens, a cat who is his super-critic, and who he believes will lead him to Penny’s captors. The movie promos claim that Bolt is “Fully Awesome”.

Incidentally, I just discovered this “fully awesome” blog, which has tons and tons of information on Bolt along with trailers, previews and sneeky peeks at the movie. Do visit it, if interested (It is not my blog, in case you are wondering why I am “promoting” it! I just enjoyed it. So recommending it).

So these were two short previews. I apologise for the delay in publishing it (because it is the end of Friday already). So if you have watched or will watch either of these movies, do post your valuable reviews in the comments below!
