Reiki Healing – An Overview

The term ‘Reiki’ is made up of two Japanese words, ‘rei’ and ‘ki’ that denote ‘universal life energy’. Reiki is essentially an energy healing system which maintains that human thoughts have the divine power to manifest energy. The Reiki healing system has been interpreted as a kind of Shinto—Buddhist Qigong and was re-discovered by Dr. Mikao Usui in the beginning of the 20th century.

Importance of Reiki Healing

Human body sustains a ‘life force energy’ which enables us to lead a normal physical, emotional and social life. When the smooth flow of this energy is blocked or disturbed it causes a lot of imbalances like injury, emotional trauma, absence of love for others, anxiety and anger. Reiki, which is an ancient hand-healing technique with a dynamic healing power, is a brilliant solution for all these issues. It can heal the cause of a problem completely, whether it be at mind, body or spirit.

Our body is not a mere collection of dutiful organs. These organs maintain their own energy fields that are susceptible to variations. We fall ill when this energy field is weakened or disrupted. Reiki healing technique balances these energy fields called ‘Auras’ and body energy centers called ‘Chakras’ so as to promote free flow of our body energy.

The Health Benefits of Reiki Healing

Reiki healing has been observed to produce amazing results. It is effective for -

  • Body relaxation and elimination of stress.
  • Igniting the self-healing capacity of human body.
  • Cleansing body from toxins.
  • Reducing the after-effects of harmful drugs.
  • Reducing blood pressure.
  • Providing relief to pain
  • Increasing immunity of the body.
  • Slowing down aging.
  • Proper channeling of life energy throughout the body.
  • Maintaining emotional and spiritual stability.

The Role of Reiki Practitioner

The Reiki practitioner may be considered as a pure vessel that delivers healing energies that our body needs to regain its former energy balance. The practitioner helps the client to actually heal himself physically, mentally and spiritually by simply laying his hands over the client’s body. The energy flows out of the practitioner’s body into the body of the client through the palms while touching. The ‘ancient healing symbols’ used by the practitioner serve to direct the life energy into the energy centers of the body to induce its proper configuration. Though the process is triggered by the practitioner, it is ultimately the client who heals himself.

During a Reiki Healing Session

In a Reiki healing session, the client is first of all asked to lie down comfortably on a table or couch. Wearing loose garment of cotton or wool is most desirable as it aids unrestricted breathing. The client cannot wear jewelry or belts while on the couch. The practitioner then slowly moves his hands on different parts of the client’s body allowing them to rest for a few minutes on a particular place before proceeding to the next. Some practitioners don’t even touch the body, but keep it a few inches above. Whether touched or untouched, their hands feel where the body needs Reiki the most and supplies it.

Reiki healing doesn’t follow any strict procedures and can be used regardless of time and place. Prolonged use of Reiki healing will help to regain the natural energy balance of the body. It stabilizes a person’s physical, emotional and spiritual harmony and creates a fresher outlook of life
