There Are Movies Named ‘Kaminey’ and ‘Kambakkht Ishq’!!!

I cannot believe the new heights of hilarity that our Bollywood scales day by day. After coming up with movies titled Buddha Mar Gaya (which I did not watch), Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon (watched, but regretted deeply) and many other interesting ones, it has yet again come up with two hilariously silly names – Kaminey and Kambakkht Ishq!

 Kaminey

Kaminey

Kaminey

Bollywood movie Kaminey (ROFL) is directed by Vishal Bharadwaj and stars Shahid “Chocolate boy” Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra in the leading roles. For all the girls who go ga-ga over Shahid (and his well maintained body), there is a double delight as Shahid does a double role in the movie – one that is close to his own sweet-boy self and the other of his evil twin. No no, Priyanka Chopra has only one role – of a typical Marathi girl. The trailer of Kaminey has been released along with Delhi-6. It is available on youtube.

Kaminey is the story of two identical twins named Guddu and Charlie (No, they are not named Gopi and Kishan). Both the twins share a dream of making it big one day, and to make their fortunes they escape from their home. Lispy Charlie believes that money cannot be made by being honest and sweet, unlike his twin, who thinks otherwise. Charlie chooses the path of evil for his selfish motives and ends up with Sweety’s (played by Priyanka Chopra) brother (Amol Gupte), who uses Charlie and turns him into a bad man.

In course of time, Guddu and Charlie run into each other and what happens next? I do not know. The movie is set for release in June 2009. Will these Kaminey show their meanness? Guess we will have to wait and watch, although I do not think I am going to.

 Kambakkhth Ishq

Akshay kumar and Kareena Kapoor in Kambakkht Ishq

Akshay kumar and Kareena Kapoor in Kambakkht Ishq

The title reminds me of the song by the same name from Ram Gopal Varma’s movie Pyar Tune Kya Kiya, and how I used to shamelessly sing the song without realising what it meant.

Anyway, Sajid Nadiadwala’s Kambakkhth Ishq is directed by Sabir Khan and stars Akshay Kumar (yes! again!) and Kareena Kapoor. This will be the seventh time that the duo are paired together. The movie also stars Hollywood actress Denise Richards in a leading role. Akshay Kumar plays the role of an Indian stuntsman, who makes waves in Hollywood but lacks true love in his real life, while Kareena and Denise vie for his attention.

Instead of the story, what has made news about Kambakkth Ishq is that most of the movie has been filmed in Los Angeles and has appearances by several Hollywood A-listers like Sylvester Stallone. Reportedly Sajid has also roped in other Hollywood biggies like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Brandon Routh and Carmen Electra (Huh!!!!), and BEYONCE (yaaay!!!). I should remind you that Akhay will be seen with another international star, Kylie Minogue in his forthcoming movie Blue.

Sajid has also spent no less than Rs. 1.50 crore on the title song, which is composed by RDB (not R.D. Burman, but Rhythm Dhol and Bass, a Bhangra – pop band).

Unfortunately for kambakkht Ishq, the censor board has given its promotional trailer an A certificate because it contains scenes in which Kareena calls Akshay a dog and Akshay retorts by calling her a bitch! Also, there is a line conveying that women are only meant to be made love to. The censor board finds it all inapropiate and hence the certificate. However, the movie is being touted as the most expensive Bollywood movie with a budget of 90 crores.

With all these swear words thrown in the titles of these movies, I wonder if they will attract viewers.

PS: If you remember any more such absurd titles, do leave them as comments.

    • LOL.. Thank you archi.. I’m glad that u’re here.. and flattered at the praise and d fact that u’re going through some of my old articles.. and personally, I do not think these previews are anything compared to the newspaper ones.. I have no sense of judgement.. Obvious from the fact that I did not like Dev D, while the whole world liked it..

  4. Mobi

Once again, I am at a loss of words.

I love movies (so crazy that I have even seen the dreadful Mithun Chakraborty ones), but the reviews that you read in the newspapers and magaziens are so boring. But ur reviews are fresh and interesting. Though I hardly watch any movies, I am going to watch all the ones that you give a green signal to.
