This is how his body was found in uniform with several bullet wounds. (Video here) Skull broken, almost entire upper head area was blown. eyes wide open, A deep scar traveling across entire forehead. His face blackened with the ashes.
Earlier this morning on 19 May 2009, some major news broadcasts
revealed that Sri Lanka Army found a burnt dead body in LTTE fortified Bunker in Vellaimullivaikkal which they believed to be of LTTE Leader Velupillai Prabhakaran. The Army also found about a dozen of dead bodies in the same location where some huge explosion took place few hours ago.
Among the unclaimed and abandoned LTTE leaders’ dead bodies, there was one distinct one, which has same physical appearance as of LTTE supremo Velupillai Prabhakaran. The sources also said that there was an expensive Swiss made watch found damaged next to the said body. The body appeared to be burnt out of recognition.
The Sri lankan Military doctors first of all washed his body very carefully and did some stiching as well. Infact they even tried to reconstruct the upper head but failed. Prabhakaran’s body was found today on the bank of the Nanthikadal lagoon, by 53 Div troops commanded by Major General Kamal Goonarathne.
Giving details of this encounter, in which the LTTE chief was killed on Monday, a military spokesperson said, “..Prabhakaran and his two top most commanders, Pottu Amman and Sea Tigers chief Soosai, drove out of their hideout in an armoured vehicle escorted by armed cadres in an ambulance. They tried to drive through
the army’s security cordon, triggering a two-hour gun battle which ended when troops fired a rocket at the vehicle killing the occupants. Prabhakaran’s body, bore burn marks from the rocket hit. The military recovered his personal belongings, an ID card and a dog tag as well…”
Armed forces officials have also recovered Prabhakaran’s personal ID card and the dog tag along with the body. They have so far within past 24 hours positively identified 18 bodies of senior LTTE cadres including that of Pottu Amman. Meanwhile, defence sources on the field said that troops are now conducting search and clear operations in area. Troops have so far found over 200 bodies of LTTE cadres along with large stocks lethal weapons. Troops strongly believe that all top LTTE cadres including its chief V. Prabhakaran have been killed in today’s fighting. The identification process is being continued.
