In continuance with my previous blog know them better, here is another one in the same lines. Here again I intend to share some tips which might be useful and make our technology usage more convenient. So without much ado here goes the tweaks and tips:
1. Open Office 2007 documents in older versions of office: I know some of you might already know it. But this is going to be definitely useful for many as there are a huge base of people who use Office tools for a lot of activities daily. And I felt it sometimes really comes across as an issue. In our case we need to work in groups and exchange documents across different members of the group. We generally have to modify the documents shared by others. Many a time it happens that some member of the group have an older version of Office. And it results in problem for that user to open files sent in the 2007 format. Lets say .docx for Microsoft word document. With 2007 Microsoft has introduced the new formats like .docx, .xlsx etc. However there is an easy fix which is available. We can use the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats.
It enables you to open/edit/save Office 2007 documents in Office 2000, 2003, or XP without any work on your part. Just make sure that your office has the latest Service Pack installed – either SP3 for Office 2000 and XP, or SP1 for Office 2003.
Some of might not want to take all those hassle because all you might need is converting your .docx file to .doc, in that case there is another option available. Point your browser to docx-converter.com. Upload your file, select your preferred format (.doc is just one choice), and enter your email address. In quick time you would get a new link with the download option for the converted file. It’s a free service. So happy working with your Office documents, be it the old ones or the new ones.
2. Peep in: How many times has it happened to you that you search for information that you dearly neeed. And then you get one site which talks about the exact information. But when you try to access the site, you get the following message “Please register”. Arrgghh!!! I personally get very irritated and it happens many time to me when I am looking for an information. So, I started looking for ways in which we can tweak the these sites and somehow just access the information. I mean its totally fare as I am just trying to get some basic information and at the same time don’t want to be bugged by these sites. Eureka!!! I got onethat I was looking for, and guess what it is called. Its called “Bug me not”.
Its is a simple method to get access to protected content without need to endure the annoyance of signing up for an account. All you need to do is visit BugMeNot to bypass most of these annoyance. BugMeNot is a free Web site that stores registered user account login ids and passwords so you don’t have to provide your personal info.
After opening BugMeNot front page, just type in the URL of the website that you’d like access. BugMeNot will return a list of user names and passwords along with their accuracy percentage. The higher is the accuracy the better the chances of cracking it. So now you can use on of these and access the information that you like.
For Firefox users, BugMeNot provide the extension that can automate the entire process. Once you’ve installed the extension, you can easily access the website you like by right clicking on the username or email address text box. So, its again a wee bit easier for Firefox users.
3. Optimize your PC: Once in a while the PC that we use need some performance enhancement or you can say tune ups. This can be very well done by the TuneUp Utilities. The program does effective job of system optimization to make your PC more smoothly, run faster, and less problems. TuneUp Utilities 2009 includes the following:
a) a driver defragmenter,
b) a Windows Registry cleaner,
c) startup optimizer,
d) an overall speed optimizer, and
e) many others comprehensive tools.
The advantage of this tool is the ease of use. The menus and other features are very well structured. Don’t worry if you don’t understand the complex technical terms. I mean if you are in the same boat as I am! It provides option for selecting the various features manually and go for optimization. However for lesser technical mortals like us it provides an option to click on TuneUp 1-Click Maintenance for easy optimizations.
Lets stop here today. Will be again back with some more tips as an when I am able to find something new and helpful. Till then I hope these technology tips will make our technology endeavors more fun.
