It’s back…..!
………It was actually never gone, never ever over. Once again the newspapers are full of heart wrenching stories of young lives lost in the Pune terror attacks! Now it is not just Indians, but the terrorists are making it more shameful for India by targeting our guests, the foreigners! This is something now we have to live with in this country. But WHY?
A flood of actions and reactions arise when there is an attack. High alert is imposed at several places. Stories of bravery, luck, destiny, the affected city’s brave springing back to life, all these fill the pages of newspapers. But who is affected by these stories? It is only the common, helpless people like us who read them with tearful eyes. Whom are these stories meant for? For the terrorists? No way! It is day dreaming if we think any of the hardened terrorists are going to be moved by these terror pictures!
Things seem to move and some lessons seem to be learnt only when the attack is fresh. Gradually, smoothly & conveniently it becomes a thing of the past. We forget the dead and are basking only in the glory of getting back to normal. We cannot fight terror like this. It is here to stay and it needs constant vigilance. How long can we risk the life of innocents?
There was a time when India’s fiscal deficit was high mainly due to defense expenditure. It was reduced to control the deficit and the resulting inflation. But now it is again time to spruce up the security of the nation, even if it means cutting expenditure on other sectors. We need higher standard of security system, more R&D in the security related fields, wherever required importing technologies from advanced countries like America which had faced such attacks in the past. We cannot afford a single blink! Earlier only metros and Indians were suspected targets. Pune was almost unexpected. And now simple, small cities like Kanpur and Indore are also in the terror hit list. Innocent Foreign tourists who have nothing to do with India’s politics are targeted! The terrorists aim is not to leave any part of India untouched by terror and fear. As soon as the reactions to an earlier attack starts fading, they strike, and again and again we are caught napping. Why isn’t the security system learning from the repeated failures? When will our politicians learn to rate human lives higher than politics?
The Thackerays should realize now, there is a greater world than their Maharashtra! Wake up! We have to fight greater evils of society if we want to protect our people. When all security was busy in the release of a film, in handling the madness of the Thackerays, tragedy very conveniently struck Pune! Who is responsible? We have to stand as a nation. Security is not the responsibility of one Home Minister. It is the responsibility of each and every politician demanding vote! So wake up and save the country!
Why can’t we stop this!

I guess it’s a natural part of our body’s defence system. The body can’t deal with heightened levels of adrenaline for extended periods of time – those that experience this (stock brokers?) become prone to heart & other ailments unless they get special training on how to handle it (like soldiers).
So while the frustration is well placed, I guess results may probably come from aggressive foreign policy and not necessarily from having a gun at our side all the time.
