My decision to watch a Bollywood movie used to be is based on its songs. If the songs are great, then I most definitely will watch the movie. But I must admit that just songs or music are not good metrics by which one can judge a movie. Here is a list of awfully boring movies that had the most beautiful of songs (I do not mean the instantly addictive and almost immediately boring music, but the music that stays on your playlist for months and even years later).
Holiday
What? You have never heard of this movie? Don’t worry. You are not alone. Directed by Pooja Bhatt, the movie stars Dino Morea and Onjolee Nair, and music by Ranjeet Barot. The story is a soppy romance between Dino and Onjolee. Onjolee, a simple girl-next-door comes on holiday to Goa where she meets sexy salsa dancer Dino, who sweeps her off her feet with his moves. Had the acting been better, the chemistry between the lead pair would have been interesting. However, the only enjoyable moments of the movie are the dances, in which the lead pair twirls and pirouettes across the screen with such elegance that leaves one amazed and dumb-founded. Of course, had it not been for the innovative music by Ranjeet Barot and beautiful lyrics, the dance wouldn’t have been half as good. Watch the following songs from the movie: Aashiyan, Tu Hai Bhatakta Jugnu Koi, Neele Neele Asmaan Tale, Khwahishon Se, Move With My Body (My favourite!). Are you already planning to learn Salsa? I wish I had the money (and a partner :p ) for it.
Dobara
Remember Dobara? No? It was the movie that was touted as the comeback vehicle of Raveena Tandon, but became her exit vehicle instead. Dobara starring Raveena Tandon, Jackie Shroff and Mahima Chowdhary, is directed by Shashi Ranjan and has hummable music by Anu Malik (perhaps his last good music). Dobara is the story about Riya (Raveena Tandon) who returns from a mental asylum to lay claim on the man she loves, Jackie Shroff (Ranbir) who is now happily married to Anjali (Mahima Chowdhary). Riya informs Ranbir of their son in Goa and requests him to accompany her to find their son. Shocked and shaken Ranbir, and Riya set out in a jeep. Suspicious wife Anjali takes a plane to Goa to keep an eye on them. During the flight Anjali meets a man who helps her see things in a different way. The movie is just a muddle of so many things that you cannot write its story in a single line! Plus there are these unwanted but beautiful songs thrown in. Mujhse Kyun (a sweet song by Alka Yagnik. Raveena looks cute but Jackie?? uh I ‘d better not say anything!), HumNasheen (The father’s favourite. And since he isn’t really into music, the song must be something. And the song features Alisha Chinoy! Woo-hoo!), Goonja Hua (The classic Bollywood running-around-trees song. Again you have the sugary voice of Alka Yagnik to please you), Tum Abhi (My favourite! How I love this song! Never get bored of it!).
Iqraar By Chance
Don’t worry if you think that you have no knowledge of movies just because you never heard of this one. Iqraar By Chance never got to see the theatre, so there is no point in talking about it. It is only thanks to Radiocity Hyderabad, which kept playing the song Saari Saari Raat by Sunidhi Chauhan, that I got to know of it. The song has Sunidhi hit the most amazing notes. It sounds as if she is lost in singing. Sunidhi has, perhaps, the most amazing and soulful voice, which she can modulate easily to suit any mood. If only she could come out with an international album, she would provide tough competition to the likes of Mariah Carey and Beyonce (I’m not exaggerating. You will know when you listen to the song!). And you’d better listen to the song because I had to put great efforts in making and uploading the video on youtube just for you! It was not available anywhere.
Aaja Nachle
Aha! Everyone knows about this one! How it was the most hyped movie in 2007 and how it was touted as Madhuri Dixit’s comeback to Bollywood. The movie has Dia (Madhuri) returning to her village from New York after 11 years and discovering that the government has decided to pull down the theatre where she had learnt dance. Dia makes up her mind to put together a dance show starring the villagers to raise funds for her theatre. Had it been anyone else but Madhuri, the movie would have failed miserably. Even with her in it, the movie did not do exceptionally well at the box office. Of course there were mixed responses to the movie and I happen to be one of those who liked it! However it has two great songs that are always on my playlist. Aaja Nachle: Again by Sunidhi Chauhan. I’m so in love with this song that no matter where I am, if I hear it playing, I start shaking my body to it. Then there is Ishq Hua, that sweet love song that reminds one of Spring when Sunidhi sings “Aise Chale Jab Hawa, Ishq Hua Hi Hua“!
These are just a few of such movies that I was able to think of. If you remember any more, you do know that you have to drop them as comments, don’t you?

The movie name is Yahan… (I believe tht its a flop movie but it was screened in foreign film festivals) but one song really got me reelin. Its naam ada likhna(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNQNUQ6Spog). Whenever I listen to this song, it reminds me of the holidays I spent in J&K.

U remind me of it. Yes. That Jimmy Shergil movie, if I’m not wrong. I had liked that song too. Alas, I lost it with my old computer. I should search if I still have it.
Thanks for adding! :)
