Doesn’t Katy Perry look like Preity Zinta?

Ok, I have this uncanny ability of finding the remotest likeness between peoples’ looks. I have already found a Lara Dutta, a Bipasha Basu, a NELLY FURTADO (one of my favourites… I mean the original Nelly Furtado), and an Abhinav Bindra (and look-alikes of my friends too) in my college. And here ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the gem of all my discoveries – Pop Star and (my) current music sensation, Katy Perry and the famous Bollywood dimple-girl Preity Zinta! You can see for yourself the striking resemblance between these two women, who are special in their own ways.

Katy Perry was born Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson on 25th October, 1984 to pastor parents. She grew up in California listening to gospel music and singing in church. In fact, in the year 2001, she had released a gospel pop album under her real name Katy Hudson. The album, however, came and went without a sound not bringing her the recognition that she craved.

Twenty four years old Katy Perry struggled for about 7 years, being kicked from one record company to another and being labelled as the “Next Big Thing” by Blender Magazine in 2004. She worked with Glen Ballard, The Matrix and Columbia Records without really getting her big break. One of my favourite songs of these is “Use Your Love”, with its frisky and flirtatious lyrics. However, nothing much happened until 2007, when Katy Perry signed to Capitol Music Group and released her first single with the cheeky title Ur So Gay.

The song generated a lot of online buzz, thus setting the right mood for her debut album One Of The Boys in 2008. Her first single I Kissed A Girl reached straight number 1 on the US Billboard and also fetched her a Grammy nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. However, Katy Perry created a hell of a controversy by these two songs, sparking the wrath of LGBT groups, who alleged that the songs promoted homophobia and ridiculed gays, and religious groups, who accused her of promoting homosexuality and vulgarity with her sex-innuendo laden songs! Now that is what I call irony! Also, her family life is in turmoil as her parents find her “secular” music “very shameful and disgusting”. 

I Kissed A Girl also lead to numerous parodies on TV and youtube. Some examples are I Kissed A Chimp and he liked it!, I Kissed Barack (no offence), I Kissed A Cat…. Hope My Goldfish don’t mind it!

But then her album sold over 3 million copies and she has supported it with many tours. Although Katy Perry, in her album, ridicules boys by accusing them of smelling like “a baseball team”, pukes in the porcelain, acts like a pricey hooker, ridicules sweet men by calling them gay, I still cannot help but listen to her album, which is quite addictive.

A word of caution to her new fans though – Do not even listen to cute Katy sing live, just to safeguard your hearing ability. It is all a screech-and-wail affair! But you will love her digitally remastered sound.

 Preity Zinta

Preity Zinta

Preity Zinta, the cute girl with the equally cute dimples has 35 movies to her credit which include Bollywood, Punjabi and Telugu. With 3 awards and innumerable nominations, this fanmous lass has done it all.

She was born on 31st January, 1975. And to prove that she is beauty with brains, she started her acting career after garduating with a degree in Criminal Psychology (Whoa!). She debuted in the role of Preeti Nair in the 1998 movie Dil Se which won her the Filmfare Best Female Debut Award. She later rattled the audience with her portrayal of a role of a single teenage mother in the 2000 movie Kya Kehna (Yes! In Bollywood only! It does make sensible movies sometimes you know). Since then she has performed a variety of roles.

Her most noted movies are Dil Se (1998), Soldier (1998), Kya Kehna (2000), Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega (2000), Dil Chahta Hai (2001),  Armaan (my favourite.. in 2003), Koi Mil Gaya (2003), Veer Zaara (2004), Salaam Namaste (2005), Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna (2006), The Last Lear (2007) and Heroes (2008).

Her movies to watch out for are Main aur Mrs Khanna, in which she does a cameo and Har Pal, both of which are releasing in 2009.

My personal observation – She seems to have been hiding from the movie scene for quite some time now. Ah, well! I guess she’s earning loads off the IPL with boy friend Ness Wadia!

So you do agree with me, dont you? That they both look alike? huh? Actually, both of them remind me of one of my classmates (LOL)!

PS: I was surprised when I found no source on the internet talking about this resemblance between Preity and Katy. Spent 3 days searching for the perfect pictures to make the collages. I still have a few good ones, which have not been put up here. Guess 3 pictures are enough to drive home my point (if there is any).
