Many times it happens in life that you look at things that you know in a new and different way. A similar thing happened, although it would be unfair to say that I looked at it differently. It was a case when someone facilitated me in taking a different perception of things that we are so used to see in a particular fashion.
We generally talk about brands and products particularly being MBAs of marketing domain. But have you ever thought about which are some of the biggest brands in this world. I know whenever such kind of questions are being placed in front of us we tend to think about names like Mercedes, Coca-Cola, Nike etc. I also thought in similar lines when I was asked. And would have continued to think like that but for the intervention that our Prof did in one of the session.
Can you guess which are the two biggest brands ever? Think Abstract! That is the way he asked the question. And thats the way I am putting it.
One of the biggest brands ever is the “GOD”. I mean look at it from the money that is spent, it is huge. Look at the churches, cathedrals, temples etc and you will realize the amount of money spent. Look at the turnover that a temple like Tirupati temple in India does, its mind boggling. What is the brand they are using? It is the “GOD”. Brand Managers of different product brand continuously try to establish a unquestionable image among the consumers about their brand and look at this brand called “GOD” there is no parallel that you can draw with this brand. It is a brand which earns so much money and GDP that many big giant brands put together would never ever be able to do.
Another big brand that is good in everyone’s eyes is? Any guesses???
Its “Mother”. It is a brand with has an unparalleled set of positive attributes associated with it. Whenever you listen to the word Mother an image of someone caring, self sacrificing etc etc comes to your mind. I am not at all saying that these tags are wrong. But the fact is there are multitude of Mother who are nasty but still you don’t seem to associate negative image with the brand “Mother”. Isn’t that something a brand manager for any product or service dream day in and day out?
However, it is difficult to achieve as I don’t believe any brand can attain the levels which this brand called “Mother” has attained throughout human civilization.
Thus the answer is clear the biggest ever brands known to mankind are “GOD” and “MOTHER”. I don’t know which one is bigger or whether they compete with each other or not. And also whether there exist some other brand which can either leave these brands behind or atleast can be at par with them. I don’t seem to have much clue. If anyone of you have, do let me know!!
