Dell’s tablet personal computer is ready to hit the retail stores. Streak is seen as a mini-tablet or a large smartphone according to analysts. Dell first announced its Streak in January 2010, advertising the device as a convergence between a cell phone and traditional tablet computer. Here are highlights iPad’s first big competition – Dell Streak.
Screen – Streak comes with a 5-inch WVGA multi-touch display, which is smaller than Apple iPad’s 9.7-inch diagonal LED-backlit glossy widescreen multi-touch display.
Dimensions – iPad 9.56 inch height, 7.47 inch width and 0.53 inch depth & Dell streak -3.1 inch height, 6 inch width and 0.4 inch depth.
Operating System – Streak runs on Google’s open source OS Android. The launch will be on Android version1.6, and is expected to get the latest Android 2.2 update when available. It has Qualcomm’s ARM-based mobile processor -1GHz Snapdragon. iPad runs on Apple’s iOS with it’s own 1GHz A4 processor.
Memory – Streak comes with a 2GB of internal memory and the memory can be expanded upto 32GB with a MicroSD card. Apple iPad comes in 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB models and it can not be extended.
Camera – This is where the Streak beats iPad. The Tablet has a 5 Megapixel high-resolution camera with auto focus capabilities. It also has a front-facing camera and a dual LED flash. iPad has no camera.
Connectivity – Streak comes with built in Wi-Fi, 3G and Bluetooth for connectivity. It supports Google Maps integrated with a turn-by-turn navigation, street and satellite views. Apple iPAD comes with Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR and also a 3G model available.
Adobe Flash Support - Unlike Apple iPad, Dell Streak can run Adobe’s popular Flash software. Sources say, Streak will support Flash 10.1 later on. Apple on the other hand has been criticising Adobe’s Flash technology for security, technical drawbacks and power-management.
Applications -Thousands of Anroid based apps and other tools will be available on Streak. Apple’s App Store has more than 250,000 apps available.
Price – Dell hasn’t yet revealed the price of Streak. Analysts speculate that it will be cheaper than the iPad. Currently, iPad is priced at $499, $599 and $699 for the 16GB, 32GB and 64GB Wi-Fi versions respectively.
