Amazing Snow and Ice Magic

Ice HotelUniversal Phenomenon
Name any country that has a white winter and she will be having some sort of  Snow and Ice Art form into existence since 1883, when in the capital city of Minnesota, St. Paul, several ice sculptures were build as part the city’s Winter Carnival. Since then the amazing snow and ice magicians performed all over the world without any break.

The modern building of snow and ice sculptures has its origin already in the Mandschu time, the first exhibition was held only in 1963. The annual festival dates however started after 1985, since then the festival grew to a mass event, to which millions tourists come from all over the world. Thus the sculptures became more beautiful and more artistic each year. These days even Ice and Snow Wall Sculptures involve too much of technology. For more details see my collections of videos in this blog.

Super Sculpturists
Last year teams from Russia, Japan, China, Canada, France and even of South Africa made replicas of the Great Wall of China in the Ice and Snow Festival of  Harbin (China). See one example yourself.

You will be surprised to view at the following sculpture of some Indian native of North America and in the northeast of China. The figure was built by a Canadian team.

Every year Lord Buddha statues remain the center of attraction for the tourists. These Buddha statues are the most photographed and admired sculptures.

Evey Ice and Snow Festival  requires a lot of space. Sometimes streches up to 20 kilometers.  The Neon lights also add to the magic of these snow and ice creations. These bright lights strengthen the effect still more and from the background hear the soothing instrumental music.

Here an overview of the Ice festival. One could think, one is in some fairyland. The only discomfort being the chilling temperatures that may numb your senses if you are not wearing enough cloths. Below is a ship (a Dschunke), completely from ice built, with passengers on board.  And nearby a Fast Food Corner serving steaming food.
The ice pathways remain abuzz with kids enjoying the skating and at times elders falling down slipping on the melting ice sometimes. In Chinese festival the entire ice comes from Songhua Jiang, a tributary of the Russian Amur. The most popular activity in any Ice and Snow festival is climbing on the large ice wall. See here:Ice Pathways.

Remember that any Snow festival any where remains an event for artists, while the Ice festival showcases the masters of this field.  Currently Americans, Germans and  Chinese dominate this arena.
