ADATA NH03 – External Hard Disk Review

Hard disk drives (HDD) have provided a means of random access of all kinds of data. Over the years, they have greatly reduced in size and price and dramatically increased in capacity. The ADATA NH03 is a USB 3.0 external hard disk drive with extremely fast data transfer speeds and high quality performance. It is light weight and this makes the 1TB HDD portable and very easy to carry. The greatest advantage of the NH03 is its data transfer speed which sets a very high standard. Here, I review the NH03.

Features and Performance

The ADATA NH03 comes in a glossy finished black case with a toggle on and off switch at the back. It is illuminated with blue colour on the front side and there are heat vents on two sides. It is available in the 1TB and 2TB version and is powered by a Hitachi hard drive which runs at 7200 rpm compared to the normal 5400 rpm. It also has a 16MB buffer.

The transfer speeds here have hit the roof by touching 120MB/s. It has a pre-installed Turbo HDD software which further accelerates its performance and speed to 140MB/s. The RBS i.e. read burst speeds is around 200MB/s and the write speeds are 110MB/s, truly a new benchmark for other manufacturers. Moreover, the CPU utilization is less than 5%. However, there is no proper indicator externally fit to show used and free space and the entire design is plastic. These are the only two drawbacks of the NH03.

Hardware

The NH03 has 256 bit encryption software which is assigned the function of keeping all data confidential and safe and preventing unauthorized access. It has a USB 3.0 cable which means that it is compatible backwards on regular USB ports.

Bottom-line

The NH03 with its super-fast transfer speeds will drastically reduce waiting time because of performance. Moreover, the light weight design adds to this. Compared to the USB 2.0 HDDs the NH03 1TB HDD is pretty cheap at Rs.5600. Moreover, the three year warranty makes it a great buy. So, it has great value for money.
