earth-doomsday2012 is the year which has become associated with end of the world, and all this refers back to the date inscribed in the 5,125-year Mayan Long Count calendar. As per the Mayan eschatological beliefs and proposals, there will be series of cataclysmic or transformative events that will occur approximately around December. The conclusions are strictly made on mythological interpretations, numerological constructions, apart from the alleged prophecies that mostly allude to extraterrestrial beings.

There are different interpretations to year -2012 Doom’s Day. According to one belief, during the year 2012, planet earth will have positive physical and spiritual transformations. Still further, others believe that the year 2012 will mark an apocalypse leading to earth destruction. Both of these ideas have quite formed the part of books, television documentaries, besides, popularizing on the website and various online discussion forums.

However, many of the modern scholars have seriously contradicted on the very thought that catastrophe will ever happen in 2012. In addition, ancient as well as the contemporary sciences also strictly withhold the very belief that world will come to an end. Mainstream Mayanist scholars take a contentious stand on the strong belief that Long Count calendar proclaims end of the world in 2012.

Based on the modern Mayan concept, 2012 is largely irrelevant and the resources available in traditional culture are scare and contradictory, further suggesting on the point will something actually happen in December, of the year 2012. Furthermore, astronomers and the space scientists have many times rejected the forecasts about the 2012 apocalypses. Astronomical observations point out that the destruction of earth is not imminent in the year 2012, and NASA relates the anticipation to Y2K bug of the year 2000.

There are discordant reasons that year 2012 will not bring apocalypse. And all of these reasons differ from one point to another. Though Mayan long count calendar has given many strong prophecies in the past, it is not always true of every prophecy. Most of the modern astronomical researches clearly point out that no such thing is bound to occur, or will ever occur in the year 2012, as described under the Mayan Long Count Calendar.

Many of television series have been broadcast on discovery channel, National Geographic etc. The History Channel showcased in the year 2006 in a properly crafted series titled, “Decoding the Past: Mayan Doomsday Prophecy.” The episode was based on John Major Jenkins’ theories, and there were other episodes that soon followed. These include, 2012, End of Days in the year 2006; The Last Days on Earth in the year 2008; Seven Signs of the Apocalypse; and Nostradamus 2012 broadcast in the year 2008. Inn the year 2009, Discovery Channel also broadcast episode 2012 Apocalypse, which clearly showed massive solar storms, turning over of the magnetic poles followed by super volcanoes, Super Nova Explosions, earthquakes etc.

Though, it is true that planet earth will come to an end, the Apocalypse in 2012 as prophesied, does not hold any strong conviction from any direction.

More such articles should be circulated. TV channels particularly should present the real, scientific outlook of things. When all the channels are only highlighting the word ‘doomsday’, it does affect the psyche of the less educated class. Anxiety related health problems may increase due to this prophecy.
