Every city in the World generates fearsome amount of Solid Waste (So-Waste). Remember solid waste does not include any sewage or septic liquid discharge, waste or resource. Even Space is also flooded with unimaginable quantity of such waste these days.
Solid Waste Industry
I remember, some days back while talking to me on phone, my friend and CMD of ExpressionPR, Mr. Rajesh Jain, stated, “…In every nation, solid waste industry soon going to play an increasingly important role in solving some of today’s most pressing environmental challenges. Since Asia has the largest and cheapest manpower, so very soon we will replace the present day leaders in solid waste recycling and composting. India may emerge as future hub of generating renewable energy from solid waste. Environmentalism will be the biggest industry not only generating alternative energy, food for the pets and organics,…huge money as well!”
Beyond Pollution
Solid waste often has an impact beyond its immediate environmental consequence. It impacts on people’s quality of life and their motivation to assist with environmental management. Due to ignored state of affairs, a non-co-operative attitude of the administration, lack of political vision & will, several solid waste management PPP have failed miserably.
The administration, the political system and media criticize that it is difficult to get communities to change behaviour to improve their future if their present is blighted by poor waste management; but it is also true that no corporate group made any sustained and effective effort in this direction. The World Bank already have shown interest to promote any such endeavours in any country but the governments are not prepared. This situational snow is melting in the pacific rim countries but in Asia…OMG!
Just as importantly, the community can reduce the costs of waste management through their actions. Not only is community involvement sensible from an environmental perspective – it can save money. So mainly this solid waste issue is a major public relations mission.
Future Possibilities for India
In India the biggest problem is that the civic bodies are not at all aware of the future consequences of day by day accumulating hell of solid waste that has converted almost every city into a stinking slum. Their are some NGOs working to resolve this situation but they dont get any support from any government. My PR Expert friend Mr. Jain says, ‘ This is ridiculous. If the government starts cooperating sewage disposal industry, then within two to three years, situation will change drammatically.’
Apart from the question who is affected, I will discuss in this blog how any sort of such solid or semisolid medical waste , garbage, refuse, or rubbish, sludge (from any facility involved in the treatment of air, wastewater, or water supply), and other discarded material, including any contained liquid or gaseous material, remaining from industrial and commercial, institutional activities and residential or community activities should be tackled and what is the future of such mainly public relations dependent possibilities in any country.
